Recreation Sites Where Nudity is Obligatory

This article lists obligatory nude recreation sites bothpublic and privately owned. It includes resorts, beaches, clubs, baths, saunas (WP) and the like. As mostnudist/naturist venues (WP) are at least partially—if not completely—clothing optional, compulsory nudity tends to be the exception. While the words "not clothing optional" commonly mean that clothing must be worn, in a naturist context, this can also have the exact opposite meaning: clothing must not be worn.
If you know any Nudist Resort where full time nudity is obligatory and is not listed here, then inform us through your comments. If you are a nudist and want to spread nudism in all over the world, then donate the author of this Article, who is working to spread nudism in INDIA. You can donate her by her PayPal account. Her PayPal email is sajidbhadrak@gmail.com

Requirements and exceptions

Requirements for inclusion

  • Must be for the purpose of non-sexual nudism/naturism, or non-sexual activities commonly associated with naturism, such as swimming, bathing, sauna, etc. Even if non-sexual and obligatory, non-recreational activities that are primarily related to the arts (e.g. figure drawing), medicine, and entertainment are excluded.
  • Open to the general public, or to those who have naturist credentials which are publicly available (International Naturist Federation, American Association for Nude Recreation, etc.) Local membership may sometimes be required (not common), though this is often waived for a first-time visit. Note: Most resorts and clubs require an appointment or invitation for new visitors.
  • Clubs must have long-term control of a piece of land for their activities. (i.e. "non-landed" clubs excluded)
  • Not sex segregated, although there could be a requirement of an approximate balance between adult males and females, or that each adult male must be accompanied by an adult female, and possibly vice versa.
  • Cannot be limited to on-site "wet" locations such as the swimming pool, hot tub, etc. with "clothing optional" elsewhere in the vicinity under same management. As noted above, if no other facilities exist, it can be listed (such as a mixed gender sauna open to the public). Although a resort may advertise itself as "nudist and not clothing optional," it must be consistent throughout, and not just "encourage" nudity among its members and visitors.
  • Total nudity (i.e. uncovered breasts, buttocks and genitals) required of all males and females, with enforced eviction for non-compliance.

Allowed exceptions

Although these exceptions are allowed for a venue to be listed, it does not mean they are always granted, or that such facilities or activities exist.
  • Changing rooms, locker rooms, lavatories or other areas to allow undressing upon arrival and getting dressed before departure. These can be sex segregated also.
  • A minimal recreation or waiting area set aside for new visitors and non-participants, or (rarely) first-time visitors given a very short amount of time to adjust to being nude.
  • Peripheral areas for parking, maintenance, office space, guest check-in, and where nudists could unlawfully be seen by the public (e.g. near fence, hills, cliffs, foot bridges, etc.)
  • Private and residential areas including their exteriors, in contrast to recreational, communal, and social areas.
  • Certain off-peak days and hours, and a maximum of one clothing-optional weekend per year with a special activity. Also, public beaches that are sparsely populated on weekdays, with nudity enforced only on weekends. These exceptions are noted in the listings where possible.
  • An indoor restaurant within a nudist area; people charged with preparing food; maintenance/security issues or sports activities where protection must be worn.
  • An obligatory nude public beach need not include the entire length of the beach from where its name begins and ends. A clearly demarcated, clothing-optional area running parallel on the inland side of the beach is also allowed.
  • Below minimum temperature or other extreme weather not including excessive heat.
  • Where needed: Children who are not toilet trained, female menstruation, and persons suffering from sunburn.
  • Sunglasses, minimal footwear, and other small objects that do not distract from being nude.

List of sites by continent and country

Only countries known to have organized nudism/naturism are listed, though some have no entries at this time. After the venue is listed, the city or township is given. It should be noted that for venues not limited to only one building (bath, sauna, hotel, etc.), the actual location is most often outside the city or town proper. A few countries are extremely sensitive to nudism and naturism, and it exists there only in very isolated and remote locations.

  1. That's a nice compilation of nudist sites. I appreciate that you include links to get more information. However, I have detected a few mistakes:

    - The places under "Netherlands" (at least some of them) are in the US
    - The title for "Australia" is missing, so these places seems to be in South America
    - Benalnatura and El Fonoll are in Spain, not in Germany

Nothing that can't be easily corrected :)

  4. Hi! You might know it, but it's not reflected in your list: In Denmark you are legally allowed to be nude at any beach and in state forests. The nude beach option goes back to 1976, the forest option is from this spring.

So come to Denmark and bare with me

  5. A resort in the USA that requires mandatory nudity is Sunshower Country Club, Centerville, Indiana.

Although not a resort, the non-landed club in Dayton Ohio, the Dayton Warm Breezes Naturist Club, requires mandatory nudity.
